About
Personal Details
I was born in Panama, a country with lush vegetation and surrounded by two oceans. There my visual senses sharpened creating the frame of my art. The subject of my art is the essence of memories, places that evoke a deep sense of connection to nature and places of my imagination. These images forge in me a desire to explore visual representations that elicit nostalgic emotions of connections, wonder and joy.
Often, I start my art in plein air with a sketch and finish it in my studio. I also work from my own photographs. Once the design is established, I let my inner self move me and play with shapes, value, color, and contrast amongst a few elements of art. Painting is a need in me, it is my inner voice, and it makes me whole.
Education
While my formal education is not in art, I have been studying art for the last twenty years, I have taken classes at Paint Creek Center for the Arts, Birmingham Center for the Arts, Traverse City and Glen Arbor Center for the Arts. I also took several workshops under several national renowned watercolor instructors. Among a few: Lian Zhen, Tony Couch, Frank Webb, Mark Mahaffey, Polly Hammett and Eric Wiegardts.
